Both Prince and Aguilar will be racing their Tuned Racing Yamaha YZF-R6s in the Dynojet Pro Sportbike class of the series opener. Tuned Racing's Jason Aguilar

Team Owner Mike Pond stated, “The Superbike Shootout is the closest professional race to our Tuned Industries shop, and our homes. This is really exciting for local fans to finally be able to come out to watch the top pros race in Southern California. With the factory teams here, the level of competition will be high. Bryce has won his last 5 races locally, so he is ready to battle for the win here. Jason surprised everyone but me when he qualified on the front row at Daytona last month in his professional debut, the first time he ever rode there. He has experience at Auto Club, so he could surprise people again. The Sportbike class is extremely competitive, so we are expecting some great racing. We are looking for a good turnout of Tuned Racing fans.”

From a Press Release issued by KTM North America:

Murrieta, CA – The KTM/HMC Factory Superbike Racing Team is excited to announce it will be competing in the 2014 GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Series rounds with rider Chris Fillmore.

Fillmore will race the KTM 1190 RC8 R in the three-round series that kicks off at Auto Club Speedway on April 26-27, 2014. Fillmore is eager to compete in the new series, stating, “I’m excited for the Superbike Shootout Series to start. It falls between a big gap in our normal AMA SuperBike schedule and takes place at tracks that we no longer get to race on as part of the AMA circuit.”

Fillmore had his first professional race at the Fontana track which brings back positive memories for the now seasoned racer. He mentioned, “I had my inaugural start to AMA Pro Road Racing in 2009 at Auto Club Speedway. I am also excited about racing in Sonoma for the second round as it is one of my favorite tracks and is well-suited for our 1190 RC8 R race bike. It has hard-braking and a flowing layout that I love. The event is also a Pro-Am event so I am looking forward to the camaraderie in the pits between the professional and amateur level riders.”

KTM Product Development Manager, John Hinz, added, “KTM is excited to be a part of the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Series. The format will showcase a lot of road racing talent and we believe the most exciting racing will be in the Superbike class with the KTM/HMC Factory Superbike team fighting for the series championship. This is a great opportunity for our fans to come out and cheer for Fillmore while enjoying three weekends of racing on the west coast.”

GEICO Motorcycle

GEICO Becomes Title Sponsor Of GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout

April 2, 2014News, Pressgeico

From a press release issued by GEICO Motorcycle:

CHEVY CHASE, Md. (April 2) — GEICO has partnered with Team Hammer Promotions to present the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout, a three-race series featuring the best motorcycle road racers in the United States.

The GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout starts with the Yamaha SoCal Nationals at Auto Club Speedway on April 26-27 in Fontana, Calif., and continues with the Pacific Nationals at Sonoma Raceway on May 3-4 in Sonoma, Calif. The Shootout concludes with the Mountain Nationals at Miller Motorsports Park on May 24-25 in Tooele, Utah.

“When we started this, there were no national-level, professional motorcycle road races scheduled west of the Mississippi River for the 2014 season,” said Shootout organizer John Ulrich, publisher of Roadracing World and a motorcycle road-racing team owner. “We wanted to do something to make sure the fans in the western part of the United States had an opportunity to see their favorite racers in action.

“We decided to increase the number of national-level road races in the United States for the fans, for the teams, and for the riders.”

Each of the events will feature one Pro Superbike and one Pro Sportbike race on the final day of competition. In addition, MAVTV will broadcast two one-hour shows from each of the three events.

Ulrich’s Team Hammer Promotions partnered with regional organizations and sanctioning bodies for each event: Fastrack Riders/WERA Motorcycle Roadracing for Fontana, American Federation of Motorcyclists for Sonoma, and Utah Sport Bike Association for Salt Lake City.

“We couldn’t have done it without the help of GEICO Motorcycle,” Ulrich said. “GEICO is a big supporter of motorcycle racing in the United States, and we’re really grateful for its support of the series.”

Each of the events will include a full schedule of other motorcycle classes in addition to Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike.

“We looked at the model of the successful British Superbike series,” Ulrich said. “They have a lot of classes and a lot of races on a typical weekend, with a few featured races on TV. I started looking for regional events at good racetracks that fit in the 11-week gap between Daytona and Road America and started making deals.”

Road racing teams from across the country have already expressed their support for the Shootout.

“I was walking through the garages in Daytona, and there were guys from different teams running out of the garages, running out of their haulers to shake my hand and thank me for doing this,” Ulrich said. “We’re just trying to make it better for everybody. This is what we do, this is our sport, and we’re doing the best we can do to help it in its time of need.”
