Latus Motors Racing And Bobby Fong Go For Back-to-Back Superbike Shootout Wins

May 2, 2014Newsbobby fong, latus motors racing, sonoma raceway, triumph

From a press release issued by Latus Motors Racing:

GLADSTONE, Ore. (May 2, 2014) – The Latus Motors Racing/Castrol/Triumph pro road racing team and rider Bobby Fong are going for two straight DynoJet Pro Sportbike wins in the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout this weekend at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Ca.

Fong started by winning the opening round of the three-race series from the pole at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., last weekend on Sunday, April 27, 2014. The next round is the May 3-4 Arai Pacific Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

“We had a great weekend at Auto Club Speedway. The competition is tough and the victory was a tremendous morale boost for our team,” said George Latus, owner of Latus Motors Racing.

“We have an awesome crew and a lot of momentum and confidence coming off the Daytona 200 and last weekend’s win at Auto Club Speedway,” said Fong, of Stockton, Calif. “Sonoma’s my home track, and I’m going to attack it with everything I’ve got to bring home another win.”

The Superbike Shootout series is modeled after the successful British Superbike series. Event organizers work with AFM, WERA Motorcycle Roadracing, Utah SBA, and Fastrack Riders to host each race weekend.

The Shootout’s finale is May 24-25 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.

In its first six years of AMA Pro Road Racing, the Latus Motors Racing team won the prestigious Daytona 200 and finished in the race’s Top 5 four times with riders Jason DiSalvo (1st in 2011, 2nd in 2012), Steve Rapp (3rd in 2010), and Bobby Fong (4th in 2014).

The Latus Motors road racing team is sponsored by Castrol, Triumph, GE Capital, FreedomRoad Financial and Lucky Brand, Apex Manuacturing, Sportbike Track Time, and RM Management as well as Bickle, Catalyst Composites, Cortech, Cox, Dunlop, DynoJet, ET, Galfer, Hindle, Sunoco, Superlite, and Zero Gravity.

Cory West To Race K&L Supply/AMSOIL/Hero EBR In Arai Pacific Nationals

May 2, 2014Newscory west, ebr, sonoma raceway

From a press release issued by Erik Buell Racing (EBR):

EAST TROY, Wis. – Erik Buell Racing (EBR) has announced they will partner with K&L Supply to enter the #13 EBR 1190 with Cory West in the Sonoma round of the Superbike Shootout series this coming weekend, May 3-4.

“EBR is very excited with this new opportunity to run the EBR 1190 in front of the race fans. We had commitments that made it impossible to attend the first Superbike Shootout round in Fontana, but with K&L Supply adding their support we were able to make a rush trip from our test in Louisiana last weekend to the beautiful Sonoma Raceway track in Sonoma, California,” announced Erik Buell, founder of EBR. “We are spread thin competing in a number of race series internationally with our small company, but we really wanted to show our support for Superbike Shootout. We really thank K&L Supply, as well as our long term international sponsors AMSOIL and Hero MotoCorp for helping us get Cory and the team there.”

Brandon Lee of K&L Supply says that EBR is a great fit for their company.

“Being involved in professional racing is important for K&L Supply, and we’re excited to sponsor EBR and Cory for this event,” says Lee. “EBR has been using K&L Supply for special tools and shop equipment, and also represents the same passion for hard work and great products that we have at our company. Cory is a motivated and talented young rider with a great attitude, and we’re excited to see what he can do racing at Sonoma.”

AMSOIL race manager Jeremy Meyer said, “EBR has been a committed long term partner for us as we work to continuously exceed expectations with the highest quality synthetic motorcycle lubricants. Not only does EBR specify AMSOIL as the very finest street oil for their 1190RS and 1190RX models, they know our products are capable of taking the outrageous abuse of superbike racing.”

Motorcycles racing in the Superbike Shootout at Sonoma all have at least 1000cc in engine displacement from a variety of twin and multi-cylinder powerplants. Superbikes prepared for this level of competition are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 200mph, and represent the highest level of performance in American road racing.

Arai Helmet

Arai Sponsoring Upcoming Races

May 1, 2014Newsarai, miller motorsports park, sonoma raceway

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (May 1, 2014) — No stranger to supporting the sport of motorcycle road racing, Arai Helmet has thrown its proverbial hat in the ring by signing up to sponsor the next two events of the new GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented by Yamaha. In addition, Arai has been named the official helmet of the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented by Yamaha.

Devised to fill an 11-week gap in professional racing between mid-March and late May, the Superbike Shootout was inspired by the successful British Superbike Championship series. Both feature top professional stars and up-and-coming amateurs sharing the track in separate races at each venue. Superbike Shootout events are headlined by two professional classes: RaceFuelZ™ Pro Superbike and Dynojet Pro Sportbike.

The Arai Pacific Nationals will be hosted by the AFM next weekend, May 3-4, at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California. The series then concludes with the Arai Mountain Nationals at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. The Miller event is being hosted by the Utah Sportbike Association on Memorial Day weekend, May 24-25.

“At a time when our sport continues to slide backwards, there seems to be few who are willing or able to do anything about it,” says Brian Weston, Managing Director of Arai Helmet Inc. “So, while Arai is not traditionally in a position to offer such support, we feel it’s incredibly important to step up and support those who are making things happen, because, after all, it is our sport too.

“Arai takes great pride in being able to join the likes of GEICO Motorcycle and Yamaha in support of this new series, stepping in on the ground floor with the intention of continuing our support as it grows and evolves.”

During last weekend’s inaugural event, at California Speedway, in Fontana, California, fans saw Arai-sponsored Yoshimura Suzuki rider Martin Cardenas narrowly win the Pro Superbike race after a last-lap pass on Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier. In the Pro Sportbike class, Bobby Fong earned pole position on his Latus Motors Racing Triumph 675R, took the holeshot, then led every lap of the main event to cap off a perfect weekend.

The GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented by Yamaha has generated tremendous industry support in the few months since it was conceived. In addition to Arai, it has crucial backing from GEICO Motorcycle; Yamaha; Suzuki; Dynojet; RaceFuelZ; Honda; Motul; Galfer USA; Hotbodies; the American Motorcyclist Association; and many others.

Dunlop is providing spec tire service, while Sunoco is supplying spec fuel. Companies providing other services, displaying product and vending on site will include Arai, Alpinestars, Shoei, Motul, California Superbike School, Galfer, Roadracing World, Specialized Products Distribution and more, including Suzuki’s demo-ride operation.

GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented by Yamaha Heading to Sonoma Raceway

May 1, 2014Newssonoma raceway

Lake Elsinore, Calif. – After a hugely successful inaugural event last weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout is heading north this week to hold the Arai Pacific Nationals May 3-4 during Sonomafest at historic Sonoma Raceway, in Sonoma, California.

The event will feature many of America’s top professional racers facing off against the best Pro-Am riders from host club AFM in the RaceFuelZ Pro Superbike and Dynojet Pro Sportbike races on Sonoma Raceway’s challenging 2.32-mile, 12-turn road course.

Latus Motors Racing Triumph’s Bobby Fong, the winner of the Dynojet Pro Sportbike race at Auto Club Speedway, is looking to continue his success at Sonoma Raceway, especially because it is his home track.

“I’m really excited about heading to race close to home because I know a lot of friends and family will be out there,” said Fong, a 23-year-old from Stockton, California. “I’m really pumped to get back out there and race again so soon. We’ve got a lot of confidence behind us now because we got that win and our Triumph Daytona 675R is one of the best bikes out there.

“And it should be a really good event because AFM usually draws a good crowd, and the Superbike Shootout put on a good show last weekend. So I think we should have a really good turnout for this second round.”

As for the Superbike Shootout racing within an AFM event, the club’s 60th anniversary weekend, Fong said, “It’s good for the AFM because they get to showcase their talent and the riders get to show what they have in front of the Pro teams. And a lot of fast Pro racers have come out of the AFM: Steve Rapp, Rich Oliver, Elena Myers, Cameron Beaubier, Joey Pascarella.”

Fong will not be alone in his pursuit of victory in the Dynojet Pro Sportbike class as Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves Yamaha’s JD Beach and Garrett Gerloff; Rocky Mountain Kawasaki’s Ricky Orlando, the unofficial all-time Daytona 200 mileage record holder; M4 Sportbiketrackgear.com Honda’s Joe Roberts; Team H35’s Benny Solis; and GEICO Motorcycle Honda’s Jake Zemke will also be going for the win at Sonoma Raceway. In addition, veteran journeyman racer Michael Barnes will be making his race debut on the new Veloce Racing MV Agusta F3 675 at the event.

In the RaceFuelZ Pro Superbike division, Martin Cardenas comes to Sonoma Raceway with a target on his back because the calm Colombian won the new series’ inaugural race on his Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 at Auto Club Speedway.

“I’m really looking forward to the race next week after winning in Fontana,” said Cardenas. “It feels great and it gives me confidence, but anything can happen at Sonoma Raceway. I like the layout of Sonoma Raceway. I think it is a very tough track, very technical and demanding physically. But my Yoshimura Suzuki team and I will work hard on our GSX-R1000 and do our best, just like at every race. We have had big crowds at Sonoma Raceway in the past, so I am hoping that a lot of people come out to watch and we give them a great race like we did in Fontana.”

“Great race” is almost an understatement, as the fans at Auto Club Speedway were treated to a fantastic, five-way battle throughout most of the RaceFuelZ Pro Superbike race. At the end, Cardenas held off rising star Cameron Beaubier and his Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1 by just 0.082 second. With his family and friends in the stands, Roseville, California, native Beaubier will be looking to make the most of his first Superbike race at his home track.

In addition to Cardenas and Beaubier, three-time Pro Superbike Champion Josh Hayes, Cardenas’ teammate Roger Hayden and privateer rider/team owner “Aussie Dave” Anthony were also in the hunt for the win at Auto Club Speedway. Hayes, who rides the #4 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1, won his first Pro Superbike race at Sonoma Raceway in 2009 and has seven career Pro race wins at the track. Hayden has never won a Pro race at Sonoma Raceway, but he was the runner-up in the last Pro Superbike race there in 2012. And SIC/Motul/Fly Racing’s Anthony, a native of Australia, will be looking to grab the podium finish that just eluded him at Auto Club Speedway.

Other riders entered for the RaceFuelZ Pro Superbike race at Sonoma Raceway include Chris Clark, the third Yoshimura Suzuki rider; KTM/HMC Racing factory racer and “Following Fillmore” web TV show star Chris Fillmore; and Chris Ulrich, who rides the GEICO Motorcycle Honda CBR1000RR. In addition, Tyler O’Hara, a Pro rider from Petaluma, California, will be making his Pro Superbike debut on a Meen Motorsports Yamaha, and Steve Metz, a veteran AFM racer will also be making his Pro Superbike debut on a Boulder Motor Sports-prepared Team Tigerbike Ducati 1199 Panigale.

Motul USA is official oil of the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented By Yamaha Arai Pacific Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

“We couldn’t be more excited to help the Superbike Shootout team bring road racing back to the West Coast,” said Dave Wolman, President of Motul USA. “When I received the call from the Ulrich family, we at Motul knew we had to commit ourselves to supporting road racing and the motorcycle industry with these exciting events.”

Arai is the official helmet of the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented By Yamaha.

Fans attending the race will have a chance to interact with the racers. Practice and qualifying take place Saturday, May 3, and the races run on Sunday, May 5. Fans can attend the Rider Q&A Sessions after qualifying on Saturday, the Dynojet Pro Sportbike Q&A 2:35-2:55pm, and the RaceFuelZ Pro Superbike Q&A 5:05-5:25pm. Also, fans have access to the “Pit Walk” which is an autograph session on Hot Pit Saturday 12:30-1:00pm, and Sunday 12:00-12:30pm.

Two-day weekend tickets are $25 each at the gate. Children 12 and under are free and parking is free. For more information on the event, go to www.superbikeshootout.com or www.sonomaraceway.com.

Suzuki Contingency Available for GSX-R Owners Racing at Arai Pacific Nationals

May 1, 2014Newssonoma raceway, suzuki

From a press release issued by Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. :

BREA, Calif. – Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (SMAI) has increased the funds available in its 2014 Road Race Contingency Program, and is now paying successful GSX-R racers competing in the three-race GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout. The series opened April 26 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., and moves to Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., for the 2014 Arai Pacific Nationals May 3-4.

With an impressive fifth place finish in the RaceFuelZ Pro Superbike class, David Anthony of Murrieta, Calif., earned $500 from Suzuki, plus an additional $500 for being the top privateer qualifier at this race. He’s well positioned in the series points race, which will pay an additional $2,500 to the top Suzuki racer in both the Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike classes. But with two paying races to go in this series, a faster GSX-R racer could take this away from Anthony. Daytona Anderson earned $200 for finishing ninth in the Pro Superbike class.

“The GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout races at Sonoma raceway are a great opportunity for racers to earn money while competing on Suzuki GSX-R sportbikes,” said Steve Bortolamedi, SMAI Communications Manager. “Whether you race a GSX-R600 in the Sportbike class or a GSX-R1000 in Superbike, there is money available for the taking. We love to support Suzuki customers who choose to race.”

In both the Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike classes, SMAI will pay contingency awards to Suzuki riders finishing in the top 10 in each race. And the top Suzuki privateer racer with the most points at the end of the three-race series – in both classes – will receive an additional $2,500. The top Suzuki privateer qualifier in each race will earn $500. The final race of the Superbike Shootout series – the Arai Mountain Nationals – takes place at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, May 24-25.

The 2014 Suzuki Contingency program also covers other road race classes at these three events and at many other races throughout the season. Visit SuzukiCycles.com/Racing for all the contingency plan details, and to sign up. Contingency money is available for Suzuki motocross racers, too.

Suzuki pays contingency awards to racers through Suzuki Contingency Awards Cards. Money is added to racers’ card throughout the year as they compete and win races. For complete information about the 2014 Suzuki Road Race Contingency Program, which pays more than $1 million through 120 events nationwide, visit http://www.suzukicycles.com/Racing
